Under the umbrella of Canadian Geographic's iconic magazine are the Special Issue Publications (SIP). These issues run unique collections of photographs, special events, or targeted demographics. The August 2022 edition features the best wildlife photography of the year, carefully selected and displayed over 60+ pages.
Each Wildlife SIP is created from the structure of the previous edition. However depending on the quantity of photos and length of features, the layouts end up being rearranged.
The selection and categories of photos must also be decided by going through the database of all photos submitted by Canadian photographers. The photos selected were because of their visual impact and meeting category requirements.
We created a folder of the chosen photos, and began to create the layout. This took a lot of swapping and resizing, as well as repositioning the text. To ensure each page and section flowed seamlessly into the next, we would print each page and post them in order on the wall. This also helped us spot typos or other errors before sending the final file to publication.
