CAMP is a fictional app created for users who are looking to rent or buy used camping equipment. While travel restrictions clamped down and required people to stay at home during the pandemic, camping became increasingly popular, as it was one of the ways people could still “get away”. While it is wonderful people wanted to spend more time outdoors, it resulted in people running into a variety of problems:
The concept for this app came from a past motion project, in which we had to show off UI animations. The overall idea for the app was really intriguing to me (as someone who would personally use and need a platform like this), and thought it would be a good exercise to improve upon the idea and design.

While the idea for the app was there, and the original animations were executed well, the overall vision was limited and a well thought out design was lacking. Before I began designing the main project (the app), I wanted to revamp the logo and give the brand some direction. I developed more logo sketches and eventually narrowed down to the new logo.

To begin the project, I started doing market research to determine why there was a need for this service, who the competitors would be, the target audience and what factors would make my product unique. From this I was able to determine the problems that needed to be addressed, the objectives of the app and how the app would provide solutions.
Using the information gained from market research, I was able to narrow down the target audience and app design by creating user personas, empathy maps, flow charts and site maps.

Once I had a direction and clear targets, I began developing rough sketches of what the app interface could look like. From that I was able to create low fidelity wireframes.
Creating the low-fi wireframes allowed me to flush out any potential problems and therefore finalize design ideas in the high fidelity wireframes. I created a total of 28 pages, as well as interactions and pop-ups. I wanted to focus on the two main use cases for the app: buying an item and renting an item.
After completing the wireframes, I ensured that the interactions were fully functioning in Adobe XD.

In the end this app, including the brand and social campaigning, addresses the initial problems originally stated. The app will help people find cheaper alternatives to camping/outdoor gear and encourage new outdoor-goers to try new adventures.
